You would think something as sweet as a Pop-Tart would have a simple, humble beginning, but no. The popular treat was the result of a pastry war that took place back in 1963, and comedian Jerry Seinfeld is set to tell the sorted tale.

Seinfeld's latest project will be a movie that tells the story of a vicious pastry war between rivals Kellogg and Post back in 1963. Yes, really. There was a race to create a pastry that would change the face of breakfast forever.

According to Variety, the movie Unfrosted: The Pop-Tart Story, will be written, directed, and star Seinfeld. Set in Michigan in 1963, the movie set to debut on Netflix, is being billed as a comedy and will tell  “a tale of ambition, betrayal, sugar, and menacing milkmen.”

Seinfeld said in an interview he has had a fascination with the tasty treat since it hit store shelves and decided to drive into the mystery behind the "war"

“I was about 8, they invented the Pop-Tart, the back of my head blew right off,” he said on The Late Show in 2010. “I was in the supermarket aisle with my mother, and I’m like, ‘Hold it, hold up, hold everything. The hell is that?!’”

Thanks to his new project, and a host of his famous friends, Seinfeld will have some answers to the method behind the madness of the Pop-Tart.

The whole tale is pretty scandalous. Apparently, Post invented a process for enclosing moist food in foil to keep it fresh and created a toaster-prepared breakfast food called "Country Squares". Unfortunately, they announced the creation before it was ready to go to market. Arch rival and nemesis Kellog caught wind of the new novelty and ran with it...faster. Pop-Tarts hit the shelves and the rest is history. 

The film is set to star Amy Schumer, Melissa McCarthy, Jim Gaffigan, Hugh Grant, Christian Slater, James Marsden, Jack McBrayer, Tom Lennon, Adrian Martinez, Bobby Moynihan, and Sarah Cooper.

Production is set to begin sometime in 2022, with no word on whether Seinfeld will go for some authenticity and film parts of the flick right here where it all happened in Michigan.
